Are You Settling?

We've all been there. Prowling through the seventeenth store at the mall and we STILL can't find that perfect fit. The jeans are out there. We know they are! But the pathway to them is a little more treacherous and time-consuming then we thought.

The jeans you are trying on look like they almost fit. But they suffocate you and you can't breathe or walk in them. The ones you tried on right before are too baggy and make you feel like a deflated balloon. So what now? Do you keep searching for that perfect pair? Or settle?

You keep searching, of course, and behold! Twenty minutes later, you find them. The pair that makes you feel confident, secure, and like you're worth a million bucks. This is how your life should feel the majority of the time. A (mostly) perfect fit.

But that's just not the case for most of us. Settling is everywhere. We settle for relationships, jobs, and lifestyles that never fit us in the first place. The draw to it could be security, but what are you really sacrificing in the long run? If it's fulfillment or happiness, it may be time to say goodbye.

So let's break out of that settling syndrome and find the perfect fit for you, you unique little unicorn.

First, let's think of the last time an opportunity knocked on your door and your face lit up. You felt the excitement in your every bone. You thought to yourself, "Yes, this is what I want." But then your voice of reason came in, "Oh, maybe when I am financially stable." Or, "That's never going to work out, I can't leave the life I've created behind!" Au contraire, YES YOU CAN. But you don't have to do it all immediately.

Taking baby steps towards creating the life you love is the most viable and sustainable way to do it. Whether that means dedicating an hour every week to check in with long-term goals or making space in your calendar for that cooking class you've been wanting to try, keep the focus on what fulfills you the most now and build a foundation for what will fulfill you even more in the future.  You can accomplish everything you've ever dreamed of with baby steps!

If you're at a breaking point and don't want to stay in the job or relationship you have for another second, then by all means GET OUT and set yourself free! Postponing something that you know you need to do will only feel more and more suffocating as you go. Imagine putting those tight jeans in the dryer. Many times. Yep. I don't like the sound of that either. So if you are still justifying why you're in that job or relationship, stop listening to your mind and tune in to your heart. Your body never lies and you'll know if it's not the fit you're looking for.

Now, before we get ahead of ourselves, let's acknowledge one thing. If you are working long hours in a job that isn't your dream job but that will lead you to it, then GREAT. As long as you are holding that vision of your life, staying present, and focusing on a long-term goal. Wishing away your present life situation will only distract you from creating a better future. Love your life right now, no matter what, and start building for the brighter future that will come.

The key is to inject love into every aspect of your life, so find a way to love your commute, your dingy little apartment, your co-workers because like attracts like. If you can love the life you have right now, you're more likely to attract a life you love even more in the future.

I hope that every time you put on jeans you remember the metaphor it has to your fulfillment. Let it be a daily reminder for the infinite possibilities of what you can do and create in your lifetime. Follow your heart and never settle for anything less than what you deserve.
