How to Break Out of the Cycles Holding You Back

In our group coaching session this past Monday, we talked about cycles, patterns, and habits...the ones that keep us going and the ones that hold us back.

And as I got to thinking more about them, I realized that we usually think of cycles in one of two ways:

1. They are controlled by you.
2. They aren't controlled by you.

And if they aren't controlled by you, they are controlled by some sort of external pressure: relationships, money, work, etc.

But if you list out your top three cycles, what power and control could you reclaim?

Here are my top three most crippling cycles and how I reclaimed my power within them.

1. Do a lot one day then do close to nothing the next.
2. Be all lovey dovey to everyone then totally explode.
3. Be super healthy then totally fall off the train.

The first cycle really affects my productivity in all streams of life. And I might be able to blame the extreme fluctuation on having many urgent demands one day and being exhausted the next. But I KNOW that this coming year, I can settle into a less extreme cycle by finding the middle ground between doing a lot and doing nothing. Steady schedule here I come!

The second cycle can disguise itself in my relationships. "I exploded because he or she said or did something totally out of line!" Or is it really because I feel underappreciated, unwanted, or isolated? This year, if I consistently give a mega dose of love to myself, and others, there will be no reason to explode.

The third cycle is interesting because, when it comes to our health, we are caught in the illusion of total control. We control what goes in our body and what we do to maintain it. But the control comes when you have systems in place to keep you on track. If you fall off the train, how long does it take to get back? Where can you find momentum and keep it going even if you're not angelically perfect all the time? Instead of going the all or nothing route, how about do what works for you now, then build on that?

The key here is to try and try again until you find the systems that work for you so you can break out of any cycle that is no longer serving you, especially in time for 2019.
