This week has felt extra sentimental to me because ten years ago, on May 31st, 2013, my Abuelita Blanca Rosa passed away, just a week after I turned 21 while I was studying abroad in Peru.
I remember her last messages to me on Facebook, because she was innovative enough to have an account, where she asked me what I was gonna do. I told her I would probably hang out with friends, eat good food, the usual...
To which she replied in all caps (her signature) and flawed grammar, "DISFRUTALO MIJA QUE NO TODOS LOS DIAS SE CUMPLEN AÑOS," which loosely means, enjoy it, my love, because not every day is a birthday. Also, in retrospect and with the Spanish version, to me it means that not every day is a day that you get one year older, a day that you're alive.
She's been coming through a lot recently and has been a deeply powerful guide for me on my entrepreneurial journey ever since I started almost five years ago, maybe because she was the first entrepreneur I ever met.
And even when her shop wasn't doing as well because of border politics between Mexico and the United States, she still showed up every single day because of her devotion to her work...
It's part of what keeps me going too...this connection to entrepreneurship is a link I have with her, one that she never gave up on and I won't either.
My gift to her and our lineage is to keep showing up and help people like you who want to create a business on their terms.
So if you're reading this right now, maybe getting teary-eyed like me at the idea of doing this for your lineage and all the women that came before you, then it'd be an honor to work with you.
Yes, this I have some Gemini season specials, but this is also a time dedicated to the 10-year mark of my Abuelita's passing. That night, when she died, I believe she transitioned into a new form and that she's still here with us. So this is for her. And for you.
