Yesterday, Angelo and I got to Cape Cod where we’ll be celebrating four years together. We met on September 5th, 2020 while salsa dancing in the middle of Central Park!
Crazy cuz the start of our relationship mixed with the pandemic makes it simultaneously feel like we’ve been together for half that amount, so like 2 years, but also for 20 years LOL. Ever feel that way about time?
Anyways, last night, when we stepped outside to find a place for dinner, we were both hit by a wave of sea salt air and delighted in the scent.
I can tell I’ve been in the city for too long when I start deeply inhaling, make that snorting, fresh air up my nose.
Kinda like how I felt visiting my parents this past weekend and telling my bff from high school how much I love the GREEN available to me there.
I adore the city, but wow, I cherish my time in nature more than ever. I even love cicadas at this point!
This morning, I woke up right as the sun rose at 6:10am (probs cuz no buildings were blocking its ascent) and heard the birds chirping happily outside (instead of cars desperately honking).
Delightful way to wake up, amiright? HAHAHA omg so funny, a garbage truck just went into reverse and is beeping as if we were back in the city.
THE IRONY. This was followed by birds angrily chirping at the noise OMG SO FUNNY.
So EVEN WHEN the sounds around you aren’t peaceful and EVEN WHEN you don’t wake up to a soft and gentle sunrise, you can start your day with loads of pleasure, calm, and awe.
And yes, there are lots of things outside of your control but one thing that’s within your control is deciding what energy you bring into your morning.
Why is this important? Because how you start your day affects, and sometimes determines, how you end your day.
When I start my day feeling relaxed and spacious, with focused intention on what I want to create, I usually end my day feeling satisfied, fulfilled, and ready to cuddle up.
When I start my day in a hurry or in a daze, unsure of where I am (lol) or what I’m doing, I end my day feeling scattered, incomplete, and like I could’ve done better.
A lot of times it makes me more frustrated and irritated too (sorry Angelo)!
So when I wake up, I have one main rule (which I don’t always follow): no rushing.
Because rushing throws me into chaos and makes me feel like my cortisol levels are triple what they should be for the rest of the day. Who knows if that’s true, but that’s how it feels!
And when I’m starting my day, or want to intervene and do a restart, this is what I do.
In this video, I share...
- A short 5-minute meditation to start (or restart) your day.
- Five quick questions to create focus, presence, and intention.
- How to bring your A-Game to your project, business, or venture.
Watch it on YouTube so you can finish the day with a deep sense of completion and fulfillment <3
Love and hugs,
Kimberly
