I got in trouble for this at school...

When I was in 2nd grade, I learned how to draw what we called the "Superman S", which essentially was a bunch of lines that connected and made it seem like the letter S was 3-D.

I wasn't ever very good at drawing, but felt as though I excelled at this very simple and replicable pattern. And soon, I got OBSESSED.

After school, I would do my homework, eat Goldfish or Cheez-its (a child's go-to of course), and then get into drawing these jumbo-sized letters.

When I felt like I'd mastered it, I started filling them in with fun shapes and patterns, giving them backgrounds, and thought it was pretty cool, which is when this idea popped into my head...

"I could sell these to my friends at school! They would love them!"

So I made a bunch of them, stocking up on inventory (LOL), and placed them carefully in my Jansport backpack hopping my way to school.

At recess, I started selling them for a quarter each, and I was thrilled to be selling pretty easily and quickly, a lot of kids wanted one!

Twenty minutes in though, a teacher caught word that there was selling (aka soliciting) happening on school grounds, so she found the source (me), and lovingly told me that I couldn't sell things to my classmates.

In retrospect, this makes total sense! I mean, of COURSE kids shouldn't be building business empires while in school (or maybe they should? HA).

But at the time, I felt like I had done something deeply wrong or even dangerous. Why else would there be a rule against it?

So my budding entrepreneurial self got quashed, for a limited time of course, cuz here I am writing to you.

This experience makes me wonder how many other women in business have stories like this, stories where they felt, or still feel, shame around making money, especially easily and quickly.

Clients of mine have often expressed guilt around making tons of money, as if somehow them making money doesn't make the world a better place.

Let's clear that up right now: When you make more money, everyone wins.

End of story. Go get it!
