IT'S GEMINI SEASON!
And this b*tch is turning 27 tomorrow!! :D
Goodbye 26, hellooooooo 27!!!
I've got a feeling it's gonna be my best year yet...
But before it begins, here are the top ten things I've learned in my 26th year of life...
1. Less is more.
The fewer things I focus on, the more I get done, the more impact I make, the more fulfilled I feel. Keep it simple, because when you simplify, you amplify.
2. Show up and do the work.
90% of success is just sitting down and doing the work that matters most. Because when you show up, you get sh*t done. That's all it is.
3. Do what feels good.
Everyone and their mom says 'hustle your way to success', but I always felt like it was a hoax cuz it never actually makes me perform any better when I think of hustling. But when I follow what feels good, it works wonders.
4. Making money is fun and easy.
It's like playing a game! "Oh this works, that doesn't, let's do this instead." It's like a treasure hunt! We've been taught it's GRUELING to get dollar dollar bills yo (so many phrases like 'hard-earned money' out there). But it doesn't have to be that way. It can be a total blast!
5. Give and serve in whatever way you can.
You want to help people? Share your stories and insight any way you can think of. That hard-earned wisdom just might change someone's life and eventually lead to getting paid for doing something you love. Focus on providing value for people and the rest will come in time.
6. Release the past by releasing your ideas of what happened.
My sister and I have had some rough patches, but this year our relationship went through some major healing. I released the idea that she's mean, selfish, and destructive and chose to see only the light in her, the good stuff. It doesn't mean she's perfect, but she responds way differently to me now because she's not confined to my judgments of who she was in the past.
7. Find real-life examples of what you're going for.
I met my business hero this year...the one that opened me up to this whole girlboss world...the one that showed me this was all possible. When I found her online three years ago, I saw an example in her of what I could be...
And when we met, I couldn't believe how much we clicked. She calls me her soul flame LOL. Maybe it's because she sees her past self in me, and I see my future self in her. But either way, when you find a person that's doing what you want to do, pay attention. Their example just might speed you up because you know it's worked for them, so why not you too?
8. Different is better than better.
I was in New York this weekend at a media event and for intros I went up to the very front of the room and brought Kimbo Spice out. Did a little shouting, joking, dancing, honestly I'm not sure, but at the end I got a standing ovation. The best part? Everyone REMEMBERED me and complimented me all day even though the room was FULL of women WAY more accomplished than me.
But let's be real, accomplished isn't memorable. Bleh isn't memorable. BANG is memorable. Just be you, cuz that's when people respond best (plus everyone senses if you're 'faking' from a mile away). So even in a professional setting, be your fun, quirky, goofball self. It'll attract the people that love it and weed out those who don't.
9. Roots are nourishing.
I spent this past year 'dating cities' for my next move. I was deciding between a lot of options, move back to California, go to Colorado, maybe Mexico City, but about three months ago, I knew exactly where I had to be. CUE BIG NEWS: I'm moving to New York City!!!
But before that was decided, I planted roots at my parent's house, got stable with the biz after a year abroad, and took my time to find the perfect place to grow personally and professionally. It all led me to NYC, so if you're around holla at me! I'll be there this fall :)
10. The life you've always dreamed of is possible.
Two days ago, I was on a call with my coach when I started crying. I'd just reached a major business milestone and I couldn't help but think of where I was two years ago...I remember thinking I could never actually get paid to do what I love (or design my dream life in the process).
But “when we change the way we look at things, the things we look at change.” – Wayne Dyer. So when I started believing I could actually make it work, things began to come together. They say seeing is believing, but I think it's the other way around cuz I believed my dreams into existence.
Bottom line? Your dreams matter. And you've got a gift that the world needs. Whether you share that gift in the office, traveling abroad, or working on your side hustle in a cafe, NEVER stop sharing your unique light with the world.
Because there's only one you and there will only EVER be one you. So shine bright and commit to living your dreams out loud.
