You know how in yoga they say "Inhaleeeeee peace, love, and happiness...exhaleeeee what doesn't serve you. Ahhhhh....."
INHALEEE...
EXHALEEEEEE...
Man, I wish all the things I want to release could be released with a single breath out of my body, but sometimes it takes a little more than that.
So here's 3 exercises to release "that which does not serve you":
1. Pinpoint the Lessons You Learned
Is there a person or situation that you've been thinking about non-stop? Like an episode of Friends on replay?
If, in those replays, you're defending yourself and incriminating another, shifting towards the positive could be the trick to release.
So what did you learn from them? What did that situation teach you? Give your thanks and let it go.
2. Break Your Reactivity Cycle
This weekend, I was up in Chicago talking with a few friends about non-reactivity and how we can consciously shape our reactions. When he texts you, when he doesn't. When you get praise at work, when you don't. When people gossip about you, when they celebrate you.
Our emotions can be tied (a little too tight) to what people do or say and it's so EASY to react by default. But sometimes automatic reactions, or triggers, are a sign that you're giving your power away to others by letting what they do or say affect your happiness (a lot).
If some people or situations rock your emotional boat too much, why not fixate on this mantra: "No matter what happens, I will always be happy. I will always be safe."
3. Write Down Your Release then BURN
Sometimes I need to ANGRY WRITE, in the biggest scribble letters possible, all over my journal, rip out the pages, and then burn them. Sweet RELEASE!! Just don't burn down your house.
I LOVE this especially when I don't WANNA be all calm and zenned out about releasing! Sometimes I just wanna get it OUT of my system! And this is my favorite way. PLUS fire symbolizes change, new beginnings, and burning away the residue of the past. Just don't burn down your house.
What's one thing you've been working on releasing?
