How to Disconnect and Get Into 'Vacation Mode'

Last week, for Thanksgiving, I was in my full house element at my parent's place. It was my mom and dad, my sister, me, our boyfriends, and three dogs. With so much going on right in front of me, I noticed something...

I had absolutely no desire to be on social media. So I was like, all right, let's see how long this lasts.

To be clear, I'm one of the most withdrawn texters that I know. Even more withdrawn when it comes to social media. My phone is almost always on 'Do Not Disturb' and I hide my phone away during focus hours.

Even so, I normally go on social media once a day. But last week, the whole daily check 'no me nació' as we say in Spanish. Literally meaning it didn't birth from me, but more so means that it didn't come from my heart and soul to do it.

So, without planning it, I spent a full seven days without checking anything. No FB, Insta, nothing. Yesterday was my first day back on, jumped on to post a video, and haven't been on since for the last 24 hours. Porque no me nace.

You know it's got Instagram scratching its head when they e-mail you saying how many messages, likes, or comments you've missed in the past few days LOL. But I wanna draw one point home for you...

Whatever you're doing with your time, ask yourself what's essential and what makes you feel most alive and connected.

Social media is a tool, not an essential in most cases. And even if your business runs off social media, there are always ways to bring it back down to basics so that you run your relationship with it versus it running you.

Right before Thanksgiving week, one of my group clients asked me how to shift into 'vacation mode' easily. And you know what I said? Give yourself permission to disconnect. Permission to put your phone on 'Do Not Disturb' even if it's for an hour. Permission to not schedule any calls during that time. Permission to sink into the here and now so you can enjoy what's right in front of you.

And so whatever you're up to this holiday season, know that I'm cheering you on from here. Whatever you decide to do with your time is awesome. Even better if it lights you up like the Rockefeller tree.

If you're into all of this, you'll love the conversation I had on the Daring to Be Human podcast.

Danielle and I talk about...

  • How to be comfortable with empty time and space and stop filling the void with things you don't really want to do.

  • The story of how much I resisted entrepreneurship before starting my business and what eventually tipped me over.

  • Why giving yourself grace is your best tool in business.

And so much more...

The episode is called 'Simple Ways to Give Yourself Grace' and definitely one of the most feel-good interviews I've done yet.

Enjoy and let me know what you think :)

All my love,
